I am using an HP laptop, Windows 11 with Chrome. I can't figure out how to find the ad blocker that is embedded in this system. If I click on a newspaper link to read an article it won't let me unless I disable my ad blocker. I can't find it. I need help. Thanks!

I'm on a Mac and use ad-blocker plus.  If it's not on the Chrome page at the top of the page as an icon, mine is an icon with ABP in it, it can be found in the Extensions.  I dont surf on my Windows machine, so I don't know if it's the same.  Some of the sites that want you to disable your ad blocker will do it for you.

BTW, if you use any of the rebate sites, I found, at least on my system, even after okaying them to disable it, I ended up having to manually disable it there and for the sites I usually shop on.  Otherwise, it wouldn't track and I wouldn't get paid.

I can't even see an icon in the browser bar and when I go to extensions in settings there is no adblocker extension. I never added one, it is embedded somehow. Mystery to me!

According to Dr. Google:

Turn off the ad blocker
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select More. Settings.
  3. Select Privacy and security. Site settings.
  4. Under “Content,” select Additional content settings. Intrusive ads.
  5. Under “Default behavior,” select Any site you visit can show any ad to you.

@MarybellaSee if you have HP Support Assistance icon at the bottom of your page.  Maybe that can help you.

Thank you. I have already done this to no avail. I should be able to see any ads, but I still can't read the articles or see the ads.

Chrome browser makes it complicated to unblock ads. The process starts under settings >>Ad privacy. You'll find three on/off toggles there and all three of mine are on. Not sure if I want to toggle them off.  If someone can figure it out please share how its done.

You might try using an incognito window.  I think it may be called a Private Window in Windows.  That's what I ended up using before I figured out that it was the Ad Blocker causing me problems with the rebate sites.

Re: Ad blocker in Chrome

@Marybella

I found this bit of info on the Google Support page:

Allow ads on specific sites

You can allow any site that you visit to show any ad to you.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Go to a page you trust that has blocked ads.
  3. To the left of the web address, select View site information Default (Secure) and then Site settings.
  4. Under 'Permissions', next to 'Intrusive ads', select Allow.
  5. Reload the web page.

I had several Adblockers over the years.  They slowed down the computer pretty bad. The worst was Macaf...

I found the solution!  Get rid of any Adblockers. Slows it all down.....drag, drag.  My pc works so much better and faster without them.  Windows defender does the job just fine and gives me a report monthly.

My PC works fast now thankfully.  The little ads I get are nothing. Yay.
