I clicked on an article in Facebook that a friend posted and accidentally downloaded MacKeeper. I went into Finder and dragged it into my Trash and then completely deleted my Trash folder. I haven't noticed anything strange on my MacBook Air yet. Have I gotten rid of it, or do I need to do more?
I've Googled this and have only found ways to uninstall it. I don't think it was installed. I would still be able to find it in Finder if it had been installed, wouldn't I? I don't know very much about computers. This has scared me, though, as it sounds like it can really do some damage.

I know nothing about anything Mac. my guess is that if you did not install it you should be fine. with Windows, unless it is an auto install, a download has to be installed via a manual selection by the operator. does Mac have something like System Restore?

@hckynut Thanks, it said something like "this will install in _____ minutes. If it doesn't, click here." I immediately found the icon and sent it to the trash bin and deleted the trash. I feel like it didn't install but wanted to make doubly sure that I didn't need to do something else.
There is a way to do a system restore. I would have to look it up. I didn't want to do that if it wasn't necessary.

You should have a list of all your apps under settings. If it's not there, it didn't install. A system restore will wipe out everything on your computer.

Thanks @Kachina624. It's not there. I'm so glad it didn't install. That really scared me.

Are you on a Mac? We don't have a section called Settings. We have Finder/Applications and we have System Preferences and Utilities. If she wanted to can just use Time Machine to restore to the day befoe or whatever. There is no reason to completely wipe the computer.

Thanks everyone. I'm not worried about it anymore. I checked in System Preferences and under Finder, and it's not there. My computer hasn't been acting strangely either, so I don't think it downloaded.
