If you have an APC series 7 or 8 surge protector (I do) you should be advised they're being recalled due to a problem of them overheating, catching fire, and burning down houses. If you go to APC.com you can find out more information including how to file a claim (I already did) or you can find the information at the CPSC.gov site. If you file a claim you'll need a digital image file of the sticker on the bottom/back of the surge protector showing the model number and serial number to attach to the claim.
Supposedly within twelve weeks they'll send out replacement surge protectors to replace the recalled ones. They sold over15 million of these devices within this period of time, so if you've got an APC surge protector, flip it over/around and take a look at the series number. If there's a 7 or 8 in the model number then chances are it's included in the recall. If it does, then head to one of the sites mentioned above to learn more information.
