For a long time, I have used Picasa to store my photos on my computer. It worked great and was easy to do. I recently had my laptop wiped clear for a repair and am now losing my mind trying to restore things.
As it turns out. Google discontinued Picasa for some sort of online photo storage. There are zero clues as to how to import photos from my camera to this photo album.
I was actually hoping to find a copy of Picasa online and hoped to download it ..... but now I am leery of the websites saying they have it ..... for all I know, it could be a virus-y trojan horse disaster masquerading as a Picasa program.
Any suggestions? The easier the better is what I'm hoping for ..... TIA!!

If you can download it do so. As of today it is available to download on Picasa.com Maybe when you download it you can sign back in it and your photos will reappear. I would sign in and out of mine which is my Google account password. If the photos are saved on their site under your ID you should be able to get them back. Then be sure to back-them up right away on an external drive or USB drive.
Let me know if this works.

I found this online:
Picasa Web Albums
If you have photos or videos in a Picasa Web Album today, the easiest way to still access, modify and share most of that content is to log in to Google Photos, and all your photos and videos will already be there. Using Google Photos, you can continue to upload and organize your memories, as well as enjoy other great benefits like better ways to search and share your images.
However, for those of you who don’t want to use Google Photos or who still want to be able to view specific content, such as tags, captions or comments, we will be creating a new place for you to access your Picasa Web Albums data. That way, you will still be able to view, download, or delete your Picasa Web Albums, you just won’t be able to create, organize or edit albums (you would now do this in Google Photos).
One thing to make clear is that none of this is happening today—if you have a Picasa Web Album you can keep using it as normal. We’ll start rolling out these changes on May 1, 2016.
Desktop application
As of March 15, 2016, we will no longer be supporting the Picasa desktop application. For those who have already downloaded this—or choose to do so before this date—it will continue to work as it does today, but we will not be developing it further, and there will be no future updates. If you choose to switch to Google Photos, you can continue to upload photos and videos using the desktop uploader at photos.google.com/apps.

I resisted the prompts to link Picasa to google photos .... it just sounded like too much trouble. Maybe I will re-think this.
Thanks again for your help! Tink

I have an old desktop with Picasa photos on it and when I read theses posts I decided to download the app. Apparently there is a charge for this because it asked me to update my Visa but it doesn't say how much. I didn't want to pay because it might not work. Anybody know how much it cost?

Why do you need a VISA on PICASA? I never did this. Beware that this may be a scam. I never paid for a PICASA app.

Great that you got it back. I loved PICASA and will miss using it.

@MKR14, that occurred to me, too. I was on my Ipad and you have to sign in when you want an app. Normally that's all but this asked for my Visa number is was on file already but I had not renewed it when it expired months ago. I don't buy apps as a rule.

I've had Picasa on other computers and this never came up. I don't think the request was "kosher".
