A question for Apple MacBook Pro Users

I have an older laptop running OSX Lion 10.7.5 for 4GB.  All of a sudden this morning, Safari cannot establish a secure connection with Verizon (for e-mail).  I have cleared cache, cookies, etc.  Rebooted.  Rebooted router. I have total internet capability with any site I have checked thus far.  Just cannot access Verizon, though I can access it on my old Dell desktop (still running XP) and I can get e-mail on my cell phone.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I'm definitely technically challenged, so I'm uncomfortable just poking around to try different things.

Last usage was last night.  E-mail was working.  Then the system did a check for new software updates.  There were none.  That's the last I recall as to recent usage.

Any thoughts/suggestions?  Or is this a trip to the Apple store?  (I had the 3-year support, but that's expired).

Thanks!

Call Verizion or check their website it might be their issue not yours

Is the access connection you're having problems with going through the e-mail program?  If so, try connecting to the verizon site directly with your browser and log in.  I've had issues occasionally with both g-mail and att e-mail where my mail program couldn't connect.  When I went directly to the e-mail account, it required a validation for security purposes that I wasn't seeing via my e-mail program and the e-mail program couldn't provide to the server.  Once you've successfully logged in to your e-mail through your browser, log out and try using your e-mail program again.

Re: A question for Apple MacBook Pro Users

Thanks so much for the responses.  I had to go out for a couple of hours and when I returned, things were back to working.  I guess it was a Verizon issue, but it seemed odd, since I had access to everything else on my laptop and access to the Verizon e-mail on my Dell and my cell.

I truly appreciate your taking the time to respond.  Having limited technology ability at this stage in my life, these issues kind of send me in a tizzy!!!!!

At the time, I tried verizon.com on Safari. Same message.  Then I ever tried going through AOL and Yahoo on my laptop.  Same message.  But as I said, all is now well.  I had thought of calling Verizon, but it's not unusual for them to tell me first off that it's probably an Apple problem!  Verizon can be great at times, and frustrating at others.  Again, thanks so much to take the time to respond.

To those who responded, it's very comforting to know one can come here and get some thoughts as to what to try.  You guys are awesome!!!!
