A line under the launchpad icon

I own a mac. 

The icon for the launchpad in the dock has a line under it.

I have never seen it before and have no clue as to what it means. I have turned the computer off and tried several things, and don't know why it is there or how to get rid of it.

I hope someone knows as I am feeling really stupid right now
