One is usually told that a sales transaction may be recorded. I suspect customer service reps like Sheila from Virginia don't last long.
Let me tell you about an experience with a service rep that I had - not on QVC or HSN, but at a car dealership. I took my car in for servicing and waited in line for a service rep to write up my service order. The service rep was helping another customer but looked up toward me and said, "Hi babe, how are you?" I responded, "Well I'm not babe, but I'm fine" (that should have elicited an apology but it did not). After my service order was recorded, I went up to the new car sales area and found the sales rep who sold me my car and told him what had happened. He said, "I'll take care of it." I don't know if the service rep was fired or simply was off on future days I was there, but I never saw him again. Calling me babe would have been inappropriate if I'd been 20 years old, but I was 80 years old at the time!
If you want to read a very interesting book about customer service, read Customers for Life by Carl Sewell and Paul B. Brown. The book ought to be required reading by every salesperson and is interesting even if you're not in sales as I've never been.
