Routing Of Packages by UPS

[ Edited ]

I have been waiting a long time for my IHKwip bag to ship. It was ordered on 9/14 and shipped 10/1. It is suppose to arrive on 10/7. Today, I went to track my package and it was in Lexington, Ky. I live about 27  miles away from.this facility in KY. It was sent to South Charleston, WV. I contacted UPS regarding this strange routing and this is their explanation:

The route a package takes might seem wrong, but it's actually how our air and ground networks are designed.

If this doesn't make you want to scream, then I don't know what would. Common sense has flown out the window. No wonder it is going to take six days. I guess it is the scenic route!!

I'm sure they are scheduling shipping the most efficient way possible. Considering they deliver about 22 MILLION packages each day, they couldn't stay in business if they didn't have "experts" scheduling routes the most money saving way.

I find UPS very accurate with their deliveries with the majority arriving on time. Sounds like you will receive your package by 10/7 regardless of it's sightseeing adventure.

Hi, @elated,!  I've mentioned before that, when I lived in Waikoloa, HI (Big Island), I had one of my Q shipments go to Guam before it came to me.  It boggles my mind but in the end it all worked out as I got the package.  LOL

ETA to correct my momentary insanity.

UPS and FedEx logistics programs are based on volume.  There are predictable volumes going in specific directions for large scale customers (govt/mil/mfg/whse) that take priority of resources.  You maybe live in an area that doesn't have the high scale volume that warrants "as the crow flies" logistics.  It's all about efficiencies, volume and of course revenue.  Nothing new.

And Guam is home to a major US mil base that likely has higher volume traffic.

Re: Routing Of Packages by UPS

I use several merchants and I have had this happen to me too.  It does not mean it's lost.  What can happen is that it got loaded on wrong plane/truck or inclement weather can slow it down.  Sometimes it just gets on the wrong route but it for the most part willstraighten itself out.  Hang in there.  You can also tell QVC's customer service and just alert them.  Hope that helps.  I've had orders only a few seconds away only to go to another state but it did eventually get to me.  They let me know as I tracked it.
