I hope one of the mods can answer this question.
I recently purchased (within the 30 days) a jewelry item that now has a lower price. I called CS and was credited the difference for the item but not for the extra tax I paid. I questioned this and the CS rep (very curtly) said that QVC doesn't give credit back for the extra tax I paid.
I've had several refunds over the years for a price drop and could've sworn that I was also credited back the extra tax.

My question would be "What are they doing with the extra tax?" How do they balance the books. In a brick & mortar you get the tax adjustment. Or maybe it's different for online?

They should credit sales tax related to the price adjustment. There's no reason not to. If they don't, you have a valid complaint.

I called CS again to see if I would get a different answer.
The rep I spoke to this time was more pleasant than the first one I had to deal with. I was told again that QVC will not credit back the difference in tax for the lower amount. I asked if this was a new policy and I was told that this has been their policy since day one - they have NEVER given a refund for the difference in tax, they will only give a refund for the difference in price.
Now I know that it's not much money and QVC is not benefiting from this, my state is. But this just doesn't seem right to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor about this but the rep went ahead and refunded the difference back to me.

@lmt - Since QVC is required to pass along the tax to the government on a specified basis, I'm thinking it would be a relatively complicated task to retrieve and refund small portions of multiple payments in cases where a full order refund is not being processed. Whenever I've received a refund due to a price adjustment, it has only been for the base item price. It would be nice to get a correlated tax refund as well, but I am fairly sure the Q's price matching policy only applies to the item itself.

It's not hard really. QVC, like any other retailer, should reverse the original sale and then record the new sale (the lower price). Then apply sales tax (to the difference) using the original jurisdiction and rate. If Q's systems can't handle that, then they're antiquated.

@loriqvc I understand what you're saying. I have no idea how complicated it might be for QVC to refund the extra tax - it seems to me everything these days is done with a few keystrokes. If QVC can refund the tax when they're dealing with an order return, what's the difference? Just because the amount might be smaller? Doesn't make any sense to me. **SIGH**
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

@SeaMaiden You said it.
The small amount in the difference in the tax ain't gonna make me rich, BUT it really leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

@ValuSkr It sounds more like they just can't be bothered. ![]()
