I have had to call HSN regarding a return that was damaged. For some reason I have had to call them to reimburse the return s&h on several items. I filled out the return form indicating item was damaged. Today the rep told me that the returns go through a highly automated system and they don't read the reason for return.
Be careful to check your return orders.

I always call them so they can note the log and I've never had any issues with my refund.

I had a different ,odd experience. I ordered a Joy Mango Cooling Pillow which came with an eye mask. The box was ripped, smashed and taped barely recognizable box delivered by UPS. The pillow was missing but the mask some how remained in the remains. I doubt someone stole a pillow?
The rep asked me to mail the mask back. I said the box is not usable and trash and said impossible to do this. The mask was too tight around the head to even use and I tossed it. The call was strange.
