I live in a major metorpolitain area in South Florida, and I'm only about a mile from my local UPS distribution hub. Because of my location, I'm always the last stop for my UPS driver. Sometimes I don't get deliveries until after 9 p.m. which is really annoying. And sometimes, even though online tracking says "out for delivery" my packages don't get delivered until the next night. This is really irritating because this time I'm waiting for fresh greens from Valerie Parr Hill. They were supposed to be delivered the week of 11/27 but I still don't have them. I'm picturing my beautiful fresh balsam wilting in a hot UPS truck. UPS needs to step it up for holiday deliveries -- in my area, they are not keeping up. With the growth of online buying, you would think they would hire more drivers, and maybe work Saturdays! I'm so disappointed -- I wanted to be done with decorating. Now I'm not sure the fresh greens will arrive in good condition.

UPS does hire extra seasonal help at this time of year, but sometimes these inexperienced folks may actually slow the process down. We don't know how many delays some of these people may be causing at the distribution centers before our packages are anywhere near a truck. Not to mention the seasonal drivers on the trucks who may experience issues from just navigiating around in neighborhoods they aren't familar with, to being a bit slower than the regular people making the deliveries. For those of us in urban areas the statement about the drivers can definitely be among reasons why the UPS driver can ring your doorbell at 8:00pm.

My UPS guy delivered 2 pacakages today instead of giving them to the Post Office to deliver. The Post Office must not be able to handle all the packages.

My daughter is currently a seasonal employee for UPS and her job is to ride in the truck with the driver and help deliver packages. Except her driver is not helping but rather barking at her to RUN, HURRY, GO!!! He's loading her up with 10 packages at a time to deliver to the different houses instead of getting out and helping her (she was told the driver would help in the case of having multiple packages to deliver to on the same section of the street). She has been working until 8 or 9 at night every night and they get NO breaks. No lunch breaks, no potty brakes, nothing. They just don't have time for it. I don't know if this is the standard but this is how her driver does it. They are having a tough time finishing their deliveries each day. And the truck is already fully loaded first thing in the morning by someone else so they are ready to go. When they get to each destination, the driver hands the boxes to be delivered to my daughter, who takes them to the houses. Once those are delivered, they have to go every day to some man's garage, who rents out his space during this time of year for packages that can't fit in the truck. They then have to load those onto the truck and go back out to finish up. All I can say is with so many people doing online shopping now, you have to expect it's going to take longer for these things to be delivered. I'm not happy with how my daughter's driver is acting. He's so lazy! If he would do what he was supposed to do, they might finish up earlier in the day. But my daughter is busting her behind and this weekend was in so much pain that she could not hardly walk. It's not an easy job, that is for sure.
Oh, and they DO work on Saturdays, at least around here.
I understand your frustration. We all want what we've ordered, myself included. I just thought I'd explain a little of what I know about the process.

I agree with @Trix..we also know someone who works for UPS and they said they are overwhelmed.....no one is sitting around in donut shops taking breaks like some lady barked at him.
I think alot of us have worked at places that NEVER seem to have enough help and they expect other people to take up the slack and do the job of 2 people.
Every year I hope that UPS....USPS and FEDEX are ready for all the online shopping because I want my packages in a timely manner just like everyone else ......
I feel bad for the drivers and blame the "higher ups"

I live in a cul de sac and very few times the UPS driver delivers to Avenue instead of Place. This is upsetting especially if I stayed home to wait for the delivery. However QVC has refunded or replaced every single item not received. As a matter of fact I have two packages to return to Q V C today since the originals showed up but I've already received the replacements. Where the heck have they been? What matters is I got my orders and QVC made everything right.

On my network news this morning they reported a huge fire at a UPS depot in Maryland. It has engulfed the entire building and at least 10 trucks -- all filled with packages!
So what happens now, I wonder? Do businesses still fullfill the customers' paid orders once they can track these fire damaged packages to this location? Does the business send out replacement laptops, Kitchenaides, or faux fur coats?? Until delivery is made it shouldn't be on the customer, correct? Just wondering.
