My old hometown in MS is in dire straits.  I see Oxford MS on the news, but extreme North MS got hit hard too.  The transmission lines to Alcorn Co. went down.  As of this morning, they have managed to restore power to 3 substations.

Back in 2011, tornadoes took out the transmission lines to where I currently live and it took a week to get power at my house.  At least the weather was nice then.  There's another arctic blast forecast for this weekend.  I just can't imagine trying to live in such continuously cold temps.

@TheMemphisVette, what a relief that must be.

Being without power can be beyond an inconvenience. But being without power in frigid temperatures can have deadly and costly consequences.

Hope all without power are safe and it's restored soon.

We have friends in Nashville still without power/heat.  It's 40* in the house! 😕🙏

@Icegoddess  I'm sorry to hear about your home town.  I was just talking to a friend whose grand-niece is at Ole Miss.  She said they are all staying in the Student Center which has a generator, because the dorms have no power. But there's no running water.  The niece and two friends want to come to NOLA and stay with her, but right now the roads around Oxford are impassable. I can just picture those girls with no water to shower or wash their hair.

@TheMemphisVette  so glad power is on. Sad to say, but in this day and age it is almost Neanderthal to go without power!  Nothing works!  Nothing to do. We are In Ca, and in an area that had power losses all the time, it was unbearable. We got a whole house generator 3 years ago.  Only one power outage since, lol. It works with underground natural gas.   Everything. AC/heat, stove etc works with it. Goes on 30 secs after power fails. Does something like work where you live , or not?

I am glad you got your power back . I wonder how people survive with no heat and no way to cook a meal. I would think you would freeze to death. Even with blankets and heavy clothing your body would still fill the chill.. I guess you could eat sandwiches and fruit but being in the dark would just make my anxiety escalate. Just sad so many people are suffering.
