is this where you speak?  what is the best thing to say to a new widow?  how do you console?  Is saying you're praying for her enough?  Is it all right to pray that she marries again?

There is a widows thread in Among Friends, but the last post was in May 2025.  You could bring it back up and start again.

Justsolsa,  Just meet her where she is and have time for coffee and a visit.  Just listen, laugh and hug.  I have been a widow 2 years.  At times it isn't any easier.  People appear to be so busy.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

But I will say that as a widow I'd prefer that no one prays that I remarry.

Re-marry?  I couldn't even begine to think of that.  There isn't anyone who could take his place, ever!

I had someone right away ask if I was going to sell the house and re-marry?  HUH?

Last year my former husband passed away, I was surprised by 2 condolence cards I received from friends that we had been close to, even though marriage was almost 50 years prior.

@raspberrygal

I'm often surprised by the things people say they pray about, but that's another conversation for another day.

NO, you shouldn't pray that she marries again.  How do you know what she will want after she finishes grieving?

WHY would you take it upon yourself to pray for something someone doesn't want?

@KKJ That is very strange and inappropriate.

My husband of 51 years passed away just over one year ago. I've gone through many stages of grieving. Am still grieving. If you want to show your friend compassion call her,

meet with her for lunch, include her in activities with common friends. Don't leave her out of things you used to do with her, even though her husband has passed away. Do not bring subjects up  that are so personal about her future. She isn't even there. She's trying to move ahead and sometimes just getting out of bed is a challenge.
