Re: update on my highly sensitive co-worker

To me, a tap or hand on the shoulder is the same as snapping one's fingers to get another's attention. It's rude and while I wouldn't make an issue of it, I would dislike it. I would also form a negative impression of the person who did it.

Re: update on my highly sensitive co-worker

corporate in the places i work and have worked was required to provide mandatory sensotivity training for all employees.

they cover harrassment and it isn't just sexual harassment, it is inappropriate touching, comments, jokes, pictures, and also respecting another colleagues or manager's personal space. there is approx 24" between two individuals this area should not be crossed by touching.

maybe some of these smaller outfits allow whatever behavior...idk i always worked in corporate world....and before these trainings were a part of the culture it was a free for all for some men and they did touch and it was not wanted but the women tapped on the back shoulder arem and that was not welcome either! long fingernails, overly hairsprayed and perfume yuck! don't poke me!

When I had my incident with the out of control worker, we were working for the largest communications/entertainment company in the world.

She was screaming at a client on the phone, threatening her. The co-worker was new, had just been there a few weeks and was cold calling for new clients - not realizing that the company she had contacted (and was berating) was one of our BIGGEST clients.

The noise, the yelling, the ruckus she was causing had everyone in the bullpen unable to work. As the senior employee there at the time, I passed her a note...and since she was screaming into the phone, I tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention to the note. She DID hang up...and then started in on me.

HR came from our corporate headquarters...they were 100% on my side and she was terminated.

We had annual mandatory training and testing.

Sometimes things don't always fit into neat little boxes.

Sad to see her leave? A valuable contributor? She had only been there a few weeks...insulted a major client and hid the fact that she was bi=polar and off her meds. They were happy to fire her.

And no...no one complained about "sexy dressers." We had a nutsy boss who ASKED the younger girls to wear short skirts and low cut tops - to get car dealers to sign contracts. NO ONE complied with her request though!!!! Everyone thought she was sexist - and weird. In fact, 10 of the 12 of us quit within 6 months - including all the staff in their 20s and 30s.

Why start this thread if you are not going to tell us what provoked this thread in the first place. And yes I read the other thread but that still doesn't explain why you are shaking or calling your union rep.

I have to agree with you. All we've been told is that a co-worker who had an office to herself now has to accommodate the OP, upsetting to anyone sensitive or not. The OP was given a book to explain the co-workers highly sensitive nature. Nothing more. No examples of what the co-worker has done to upset the OP.

Why did she even post the thread if she wasn't going to explain the situation?

Now we are given an update that the OP is so upset, not a clue about what, that she is going to her union with her complaint which is still a mystery.

For all we know, the o/p is the "sensitive" one.

That is what I am beginning to think too.
