Were there homes at the bottom of the mountain?

The aerial shot looks like it's a very remote location, so I was just wondering.

This is such a tragic news story. It was sad when I first saw it on the news and it has just gotten worse. What a terrible thing for everyone in that area.

Never? Can you add special insurance like w flood insurance?

I've always wondered that too. In California you see those huge tarps placed all over the sides of hills especially in Malibu.

I heard it reported that there was a mudslide in the same area a few years ago. Not as bad as this one. Were these people taking a chance being there?

Yes there were homes but no more. This is a logging town, not like the city where it's heavily populated. But still, people lived there. In some areas of what you are seeing in the Ariel views is 30 feet deep of mud and debris. They can't even get in to recover/rescue people. This mud is like quicksand, people and machines get stuck.

Yes there was. This area has been on a watch list since then. Not sure why people didn't heed the warning? There was a report about it from the army corp of engineers. This has been brought up in the last few days, but honestly this is not a time to argue. People are still missing, and many have lost everything. They will deal with that after they find all of these people.

There was an hour long news cast on this last night. I just could not bring myself to watch. Just couldn't.
