trains

This morning DH and I were watching a TV show about trains. It was very interesting to us about the high volume of very heavy freight that is moved across this country for long distances at very high speeds by trains. The use of fuel is extremely low in comparrison to that used by tractor trailer trucks, and is way faster. Now a days they transport the freight in trailors on specialailroad cars so that at the end of the line they can unload those trailers onto trucks and deliver locally. the number of people employed by the railroads is tremendous as well. I never realized how important to our economy the railroads are.
