this warmed my weary heart....

We are keeping most of Dino and Baby pup's stuff, since I am sure in time we will adopt again. But I had stuff, like dog food, treats and Bailey cat's cat carrier(that she outgrew),so I took it all to a no-kill shelter by my home.

The lady working there knew in a heartbeat WHY I was there, and gave me a much needed hug.She then gave me a piece of paper, and told me not to read it til I was home.

I thought I'd share what it said:

Our 14 year old dog,Abby, died last month. The day after she died,my 4yo daughter,Meredith, was crying, and talking about how much she missed Abby. She asked if she could write a letter to God,so that when Abby got to Heaven God would recognize her. These are the words she dictated to me:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog?She died yesterday and is with you in Heaven.I miss her very much.I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.I hope you will play with her.She likes to play with balls and to swim.I am sending you her picture so when you see her,you know that she is my dog.I really miss her.

Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope, with a picture of Abby and Meredith and addressed it to: God/Heaven.We put our return address on it.Then Meredith pasted several stamps on it because she said the letter had a long way to go to get to Heaven. We dropped it in the mail slot at the post office.A few days later she asked me if I thought God had gotten the letter yet.I said,I'm sure He did.

Yesterday there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch with a tag that said:To Meredith,in a handwriting I did not recognize.Meredith opened it,and inside was a book by Mr.Rogers called "When a Pet Dies".Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we wrote to God,in it's opened envelope. On the opposite page was taped the picture of Abby and Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,Abby arrived safely in heaven. Her picture was a big help, andI recognized her right away.Abby isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart.Abby loved being you dog.Since we don't need our bodies here in heaven,I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in,so I am sending it back to you in this book,so you have something to remember her with.Thank you for the beautiful letter, and thank you mom for helping you write it to me.What a wonderful mother you have! I picked her especially for you.I send my blessings every day and remember I love you very much.By the way,I'm east to find.I am wherever there is love.

love,God.

This helped me through a really rough day yesterday.
