I'll be 62 early next year and I'm thinking of retiring then. I will have been working at my state job for just over 22 years by that time. I've already talked to the state retirement people and know about what my income will be from the state. they advised me to contact HR at my job about 3 months before the date I plan to retire. for those of you who have already been through this, what advice can you offer about when to contact the social security agency to begin that process? and what about insurance supplements? is there a waiting period for eligibility? how did you decide which supplement to enroll in?
thanks in advance for your advice. I'm just trying to plan ahead.
