It is a tradition that the reigning monarch be painted in their robes. As nothing to do with the year.

One can definitely tell that they were commissioned by different artists.

Camilla's is quite good and exacting.

Charles, not so much.

I agree. Camilla's portrait is accurate, yet flattering. But there's something about the way the artist painted the area around Charles's mouth that doesn't look right to me. He's not "handsome" for sure, but he doesn't look his best the way his face is portrayed.

King Charles painting looks faded.

His other one looks more like Charles.

I really like the one of Charles. He has a slightly sad and wistful look on his face, reflecting I think the sadness over the loss of his mother, along with some wistfulness of coming to the throne so late in life, made more poignant with his health concerns.

Camilla's just looks like Camilla.
