stove top

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can keep my glass stove top clean? Let me explain. I did not have it a week until I scratched it I assume with my pan. I clean it with glass stove top cleaner made for it plus several other items all made for this type stove. I put my skillets in the oven when not in use. Something my mom did and so I just do it too. When I take the skillets out I am always worried I will scratch the surface. I even place a towel over the top to help protect it. The stove I had I sure didn't have to baby it like I do this one. It was a smoothe too but didn't require so much work. Maybe you all can suggest something?
