They will tell you what you have earned in SS but they will tell you can collect more on your husbands SS.

Re: social security question

I have never been called a ""troll"" before and wondered why Snowpuppy called me a troll ...

So I dialed the number (which is on my list for SS) and found the number is no longer is service ...

Sorry for this ... I am not a troll and just thought I was giving the OP some information that would help her ..

Sorry if I inconvenienced anyone ...

Re: social security question

Per SS.gov : the amount the payment is reduced monthly when a person retires before full retirement age is : at age 62 - 25%- at age 63 20% - at age 64 13.3% - at age 65 6.7% and at age 66 you get the full amount.

Per SS, 2014, at age 66, amount max is $2642.00. It goes by your age. HH,get your facts straight.

edit

3425.00 monthly at age 70 if worker had steady work to that age.

Re: social security question

I retired at age 62and started collecting my own retirement. My husband was 65 and eligible to retire but was still working. he started collecting a ""spousal benefit"" from my collecting my SS. This was based on my SS as he was still working and did no want to touch his benefits. he got a % of my benefit so it seems as if the answer to your question is No. he did not have to retire when I did but still got his ""spousal benefit"".

First moxie, I am so sorry he passed away. It has to be very hard on you. Secondly, HH has a lot of gaul to tell you what you can receive when you are receiving it at this time..unbelievable.
