Really not surprising. As with all kinds of professionals, there are all kinds of doctors with various kinds of training, experience, "styles", and personalities........and sometimes you have to shop for a good one you'll enjoy working with. If the new doctor wasn't a good match, you are free to look for another one.

Follow-up: We have found another practice and hope it works out. One of the things we learned is our old practice has lost 3 docs in the last several months.

Agree. I moved rural about 11 years ago and began going to a practice with 4 MDs and 4 NPs. I was assigned an MD and on my first visit he called in his RN, gave her a list of tests to run and left, never saw him again, felt like a number. Figured I'd switch to another MD but next time I was sick this MD was on vacation and I was assigned a NP and I loved her! I had her for 10 years (she retired recently) and I was assigned a new NP. This new one is great as well. I find that NPs listen to you, spend more time with you and when I leave I feel that at least I was heard. I attribute that to the fact that many did patient care as RNs and have a better understanding of bedside manner than many doctors.

So glad you found another practice!
The old practice having recently lost 3 docs says a lot. You sure did the right thing!
