It takes a lot of nerve to order a cookbook, badly damage it, and then return it.
I've taken out library books where people write notes next to the recipes. A meatloaf recipe said to add a chopped onion and some green peppers. Perhaps they should publish their own book. I've also found recipes cut out. In this case, write it down or snap a picture of it.

I think if someone ordered an item as new, and in fact it was defected, then it's to everyone's benefit to know which specific item it is. That way others are warned that there may be a risk in purchasing.
If the item was an As-Is item, well that's the chance one takes, knowing they can still return a defective item without paying return shipping. And if an As-Is item, to me all the more reason to warn others of the specific item.
