One thing has to be said for posting here, (an amusing observation) members can not only post about different sites but also complain about the posters posting how they feel about them.  I'm saying that this must be a positive as posters are here exercising this freedom of expression which is relaxed sufficiently to allow it.

This is good since we are indeed all adults needing less moderating when posting adult-like.

@songbird,  that's an interesting take--  I'm not on the Proboards so haven't seen the interactions there.

As far as here, I would venture that the holidays are the cause of slower boards here.  There will probably be an uptick as we move into January (if QVC decides to keep us open for awhile, anyway!)

As for "dead" forums here,  I don't really find them to be so.  My only wish would be, I wish more people would initiate threads.   Admittedly, I tend to have very specific interests, and stick to a well-worn series of topics that I keep wanting to explore and explore (film, interior design, etc.)  But I enjoy the stimulation of lots of different topics coming at us from all directions.

If you read threads here for any length of time, you're struck by how many intelligent people there are who have fascinating histories, and quite nuanced approaches to things.  I'm often struck by that on, say, some of the "legal" threads, among others.

So it would be great, if these people who are so good at commenting within threads, would themselves be starting lots and lots of different conversations.

If anyone has wanted to, and is holding back for some reason, please reconsider--   the more the merrier!

The worst part about taking the leap to start a thread is when the first few responses inevitably consist of the helpful "Who Cares?"

Followed by the thoughtful "We already discussed this" or "There is another previous thread about this."

Those responses discourage future engagement,  which is quite possibly the goal.  Shutting down others seems to be a major source of delight and entertainment for some.

It is at that.  This is my first day on either board since 12/22.  I just never get on during holidays and even most weekends.  It is pretty much a week day thing for me.  I was on the other boards this morning and did not notice too much difference from before.

That's probably true.  I never joined.  Don't know if I want to jump from the frying pan into the fire!

I haven't been on here for at least a week, due to the holiday, being out-of-town, and other matters, (long story), but coming back, the board doesn't seem dead to me - I see plenty of new threads since I was here.

My hat goes off to you @JamandBread for your patience in the Royals forum. I posted once and never again. Your ability to stay reasonable and calm, considering the attacks you've endured for your point of view, proves your ability to listen to both sides of the subject matter and remain posting.

Oh brother. I'm not sure we've been reading the same posts, but whatever...

I have gone out of my way to understand your opinion and remain kind.

I can see that is not reciprocated, which is fine. I can also see you lack an empathy chip, though I don't regret giving you the benefit of the doubt,

Thanks for coming out. Much appreciated.

Again, I'm not sure we're reading the same threads... More than perhaps any other poster with a perspective different from your own I have tried several times to bridge the gap between points of view and I have also reached out with kind words for you at times, which you have at times reciprocated. Here, however, is where the tire hits the road and where true colors come through loud and clear. Here you are judging yet again.

Give me the benefit of the doubt or not, why would it concern me either way? My empathy chip is firmly intact, but it does see reason and is influenced by more than a single variable.

Let's be real here. You have repeatedly come onto those threads with the same agenda, suggesting hate and other ugly motives, which quite clearly seem a preoccupation, and though you have repeatedly been told you're wrong, still you persist in rabble rousing. Others then fall for it, they engage, the threads turn sour and are closed.

@stevieb Thanks for this post which is one of the best I've ever read on any topic. 👍👍
