pre school graduation

We just got invited to my nieces son's pre school graduation party. Are we supposed to take a gift to this??? next year he will graduate from kindergarten - another party, another gift???

I know I'm an old fogey but I think graduation parties are to celebrate an accomplishment on the part of the graduate - the way things are going we will be going to a party every spring for first then second then third grades etc etc.

Anyway, what kind of a gift do you take a 4 year old for pre school graduation?
