CDC confirms 1st case of ebola.

Yikes!

PS: IMO "frenzy" is an exaggeration of the discussions here in the past.

IMO, it's not. Look at how many people here are so concerned about Ebola in the United States. Yet, in the worst outbreak recorded only a bit over 6,000 people have contracted the disease and about 60% of those have died. In the United States alone in 2012 over 33,000 people died in car accidents. But I'd bet all those worried about Ebola here have no concerns about getting into a car.

Well, we do have one saying Americans who are in that part of the country shouldn't be allowed back in America. That's pretty frenzy imo.

It may come to a period of quarantine if this happens with any regularity.

there has been no ""frenzy"" here. Discussion and opinion and fact finding. Hardly a frenzy.

Trying to prevent citizens from returning to this country and denying them their rights is indeed frenzy.

Enterovirus, however, is as easily spread as a cold.

Exactly. And we don't know near as much information about Enterovirus 68 as we do ebola. Although we still have quite a bit to learn about ebola. But we still know much more about ebola than Enterovirus 68.

I will be interested to see if they transfuse this patient in Texas with blood from any of the 3 Americans that were treated here.

Last information I had is that there is no Zmapp available at this point.

Just to be clear, the enterovirus cannot cause polio or anything like it. It's a respiratory virus.

There has been a paralysis associated with the current outbreak. I have not seen it called polio. My guess would be more like Guiallume-Barre (sp)

Noel, you're right that the particular enterovirus currently in the news (which is designated enterovirus-38) doesn't cause polio. However, the polio virus itself is also an enterovirus.

Yes, I knew that. If I wasn't clear, I was referring to the enterovirus that's spreading from state to state.

In your opinion. If, as I said earlier, this continues to happen with any regularity or larger number they may have to initiate a period of quarantine for those returning from affected areas.

That's frenzied imo also. We are not going to prevent American citizens from reentering this country just because they were in west Africa. Or even if they're infected.

Guillain Barre is an auto-immune disorder most commonly associated with certain infections and surgeries.

Polio is a type of enterovirus. This strain that is affecting kids is another strain of enterovirus.

Or I wasn't clear enough Smile I was continuing on with the enterovirus under discussion.
