Yikes!

PS: IMO "frenzy" is an exaggeration of the discussions here in the past.

IMO, it's not. Look at how many people here are so concerned about Ebola in the United States. Yet, in the worst outbreak recorded only a bit over 6,000 people have contracted the disease and about 60% of those have died. In the United States alone in 2012 over 33,000 people died in car accidents. But I'd bet all those worried about Ebola here have no concerns about getting into a car.

Well, we do have one saying Americans who are in that part of the country shouldn't be allowed back in America. That's pretty frenzy imo.

Definitely qualifies as a frenzy in my book.

Yes. And trying to give it rationale by saying those are her medical opinions.

Free.....I agree in part...I don't think we would have an epidemic like what we see in Africa because of our medical services and ability to contain infectious diseases.....however....look at how the enterovirus has spread across this country...it started with just a couple of states and now 90% of the states are reporting cases of it.....stuff spreads like wildfire especially in schools...I'm not an alarmist...just being a realist....most hospitals have limited isolation units....there are also too many people in this country who still have no insurance so the possiblity of people not seeking treatment is high.

straykatz: The enterovirus has spread at an unstoppable rate - it is related to the polio virus, too.

Enterovirus, however, is as easily spread as a cold.

Re: possible Ebola case...my local news

Just to be clear, the enterovirus cannot cause polio or anything like it. It's a respiratory virus.

there has been no "frenzy" here. Discussion and opinion and fact finding. Hardly a frenzy.

Noel, you're right that the particular enterovirus currently in the news (which is designated enterovirus-38) doesn't cause polio. However, the polio virus itself is also an enterovirus.
