I'm talking about all the frenzy I've seen on these boards over the years. Remember SARS? West Nile? People worked themselves up until they were afraid to even leave their houses.

I in no way am saying to be complacent. I'm simply saying there's such a thing as being overly worried. As mentioned, more people die from flu and its complications.

agreed

I have a small group of friends who are in West Africa, some have businesses and some went over with other agencies. They are very concerned but not panicked and they are in the middle of the epidemic. I also keep track of what's going on through a Peace Corps facebook page. I would not be concerned about it spreading here. Being educated is critical to keeping calm.

You got that right.....I don't get the shot...my DH does....I take no issue with those who do get it and hope they take no issue that I choose not to. :-)

Don't feel bad. I get it and DH doesn't and never has. It's just the way we are. Smile

I started out getting the flu shot to protect DH, my daughter started getting them the next year for the same reason. This year, all three of us have already had the new vaccination.

I usually get my flu shot in October, as well as my mammogram....... I am also due for the pneumonia shot this year......

Getting a flu shot, though, isn't only to protect yourself against flu. It's also to help protect those who are at high risk from its complications from getting it.

We usually get them in October, too, but we were there for another reason and just happened to find out they'd started giving them that morning. We wondered why it was so crowded, I could hardly find a parking space. It saved us another trip.

Our daughter has coverage but she was in Walgreens a week or two ago and decided to get it there and then, that saved her a trip, also.

Absolutely, that's why my daughter and I started getting them years ago.

Yikes!

PS: IMO ""frenzy"" is an exaggeration of the discussions here in the past.

Lots of chatter around the office here since the CDC press release...we work just outside of Dallas...we know the hospital in the news....some of my co-workers live in Dallas....while there is no immediate thread it still makes a person uncomfortable knowing it is so close to home.

When I started mine it was because I worked in a clinic. I kept them up when I worked with the public and had a child. Yes, it helps others as much as you in certain situations. I continue because of me, my child, my DH and the hundreds of people I'm around every day. Protects me and helps to protect them (I hope).

Noel ... you and DD are doing a great thing!
