Over the last few years, I have seen a proliferation of all colors of " collection bins "....some with misspellings, some look as though they were slapped together with whatever was on hand. Most are gone in a few weeks or months.....no licenses or permits probably.
Not surprised at the link article on the investigative report.
While I contribute to a number of charities, I never place anything in the roadside bins. They are for profit and it's not for a legitimate charity in my opinion.
Thank you for the article link.

These bins are every where around here, lots of them.

I've seen those bins, I've been seeing the for years. But I have never put anything in them, probably because I'm a bit of a realist. I never heard of Planet Aid except for those bins. I just assumed that someone was taking the donations, selling them to rag dealers and doing who knows what with the money. The fact is that many, if not most, charities that take clothing, sell it to rag dealers and use the money for their charities because it costs a fortune to sort through all the garbage people throw at them and then to clean it and sort it and classify it and store it. I like to donate locally to charities that I know. Since I am donating things that have been gently worn, sometimes just worn a few times; I donate to a couple of women's charities. One works with women in shelters and another works with women entering or re-entering the job market. I wear an 18/20 and they are in great need of larger size clothing. The are always happy to see me coming...lol

Before I donated to those bins, I checked their website and it seemed reasonable. I've only left a few bags at a local drop off bin.
This report comes from our local news station and it is diappointing to learn that, yet again, another organization is fraudulent.
After my initial donations, I returned to taking my clothing to a local thrift store. I know they sell it, but at least I don't think I'm supporting a cult or crazy.
It's just a never-ending, dishonest world!

It is! It's disappointing and sad but the reality is that we cannot take anything at face value anymore. I'm sorry but websites don't mean anything at all. Right now I can set up a professional looking website that looks like a charitable organization and I can make millions of dollars before I am discovered. It's that easy. You are better off dealing with local agencies, charities etc that have been in exisitence for a while. I give only to such places or my church.

I find it shocking that cities would allow them, i have left clothes there a few times, i contacted our local police last night, i don't know if anything can be done or not, there are several bins, even in the walmart parking lot,in towns.

They are a scam. Here in Los Angeles, there was a news segment on the scam. It was discovered that a certain group in Africa was behind the scheme. They aren't seen much here lately but I'm sure other unsuspecting folks elsewhere are being taken.
PLANET AID? Whatever does that mean?
