order in process

how long does an order stay "in process". I ordered an Ipad2 for my wife for her birthday (surprize gift). Originally the shipping had shown it would arrive on her birthday when I put in our zip code. Two days later it is still "in process" and says it it going to arrive a week after her birthay.{#emotions_dlg.sad} I tried to have customer service express ship the order but they can't. Has anyone else run into this"in process" issue? Thanks for any input.
