I have a severely arthritic right ankle and bad knees...the past two weeks have been horrible with extremely high humidity and dew points, so I have been limping quite badly. Saturday I noticed a new pain starting on the outside of my leg just below the knee moving up the leg. I just thought it was from the limping...that I was out of whack. Today the pain is all the way up into my hip, I can barely walk.

My mother mentioned sciatica...yikes am I officially an old person? I remember when I took mom to the doctor for it a few years ago...he gave her a steroid, anti inflammatory and pain meds.

If you have had sciatica what has helped you?

TIA

Anti-inflamitories and exercise (you can find exercises online)

And if it is an old person thing, then I have been old since I was 30, lol.

Mine came from an elderly male hitting my body with his car in a kmart parking lot. Just kept on driving too...

I had it after I fell, in my 20's. I went to the chiropractor who recommended leg exercises.

I feel for you, because the pain is horrible.

Mine didn't wait for old or middle age either.

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

I had sciatica problems since my 20's. The only thing that really helps me is stretching and exercise.

Thanks all...it sure isn't fun! Will try to do some stretching and take an extra advil.

I guess I always associated it with old age from comedy skits and such...it was always old people complaining of it.

Acupuncture helped mine 30 years ago and I rarely have any flare-ups.

It would not be a bad idea to see a doctor about this because sciatica is not innocuous. There is a laundry list of causes-chief among them is a bulging or herniated disc. A short course of steroids might be indicated. A couple of visits to a physical therapist may not be a bad idea either. Many of the exercises for sciatica are floor based, and as a fellow sufferer with knee issues-I had to find other exercises. Exercise is an absolute must: you don't want your condition to deteriorate. First, however, see a doctor. Poodlepet
