As far as chewing goes, you might want to buy some KONG rubber toys. They make different strengths & sizes (black is strongest). All my Goldens have loved that toy.

Avoid Nylabones, since they do break off into chunks, & can be swallowed. My vet said a big NO to those! He said if you don't want to pay for doggie dental surgery in the future, avoid all Nylabones.

Thanks for that info golden. The pet store recommended one and I did purchase one for him but now took it away.

ETA: He has a blue kong toy.

How about Rascal? He looks full of energy and impish.

Over the years I've raised many puppies. The time outs are great and a crate is a safe place where he won't get into electrical wires or poisons . One of the things I always did with mine was to feed them 2/3 of their kibble and then hand feed them a couple kernels at a time speaking soothingly and yelp if they bite. This is done for a few weeks until they get that mouthing is not a good thing. Reward only the good behavior. Try to ignore the other unless it is something dangerous. Also distract him with a better choice i.e. toy. Give treats for good behavior. Lure him into a sit position before petting. When sitting then give the treat and pet him on his chest. This is something that helps prevent him from jumping on people and kids. Make strangers ask first before petting him. Then when he is in the sitting position he is ready for greeting. Saying the word ready is a good idea especially for training classes.

In my past I used to teach puppy classes but stopped with health issues. May return again but still down the road.

Smile when you call him to you. Never scold and expect him to come with a frowny face. It should always be the best thing in the world for a puppy and dog to come to you. Once the basics are in place you can do so much as the bonding is in place. Good luck.. you will go fine.
