My neighbor has a motion light that comes on every time anyone drives by, it's annoying and stupid since it provides them with a bunch of false alarms.

How close to the street is their house? There should be a way to change the sensitivity of the lights.

Not that close but it's higher than the road. Their yard slopes up to the house. They have it mounted on the corner of their garage, maybe it's to light their driveway when they pull in rather than to deter crime.

1. Lock your doors and windows, keep the exterior of your home well lighted, and keep shrubbery trimmed.

2. Get a home security system.

3. Get a gun for your home and learn to use it. Many communities offer training courses for responsible gun owners. Contrary to what anti-gun activists would have us believe, communities that require homeowners to keep guns in their homes experience a significant DECREASE in crime.

Yikes, thank goodness I don't live in one of those communities.

I use crimemapping.com .

None of my cities were listed. {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

These sites work with local law enforcement (and ESRI's mapping engine) to get the info up. Maybe your police dept decided not to have the info on the websites.

My city is not listed, but I'm sure there is crime here...

Everyone says get a dog. We cant have a dog my husbands deathly allergic to the dogs saliva and NO allergy shot on earth works for my husband as far as dogs. We installed a security system even though we live in the country in a safe neighborhood I am well awarre that no neighborhood is without crime. (I am not naĂŻve -some people think every area is safe except cities- not true).

Break-ins and petty thefts are the types of crimes I hear about in our community, although our own neighborhood hasn't had any reports.

Our entire property is fenced and gated, and we have motion detector lights. I am thinking of installing security cameras at a few different locations. the cost is really very reasonable.

We have a fenced in backyard and an alarm system. The outside is well-lighted too.

We recently installed a security system complete with cameras. We have a fenced in backyard but last summer, 2 kids jumped our fence to run through our yard then jumped it again to get back out of our yard, after they stole something from a store. This was in broad daylight and I was outside on our deck!

We have 2 dogs but one is older and honestly, there would have to be a lot of racket before he'd even hear anything going on.

I also "Liked" our local police department and they update to let citizens know when there is a rash of break-ins, vandalism, etc. They also warn of scams like fake solicitors, etc. And if someone does get a permit to go door to door, they put that on their FB page.
