mosquito question bite question

Good morning. My Catahoula Leopard pup has several mosquito bites on her front legs. She has been chewing (scratching ) them for a couple of days. I've tried washing her legs and rinsing them, but I know she is still uncomfortable. Does anybody know of any topical lotion that can be put on them..... safely?. I will be increasing her apple cider vinegar tablets to 2x's a day for a while. Appreciate any suggestions. BTW... I will be calling my vet to talk to them too. Smiley Happy

Re: mosquito question bite question

I was thinking rubbing alcohol, but not for a pup. She may be allergic to the bite. If she was out, be sure she doesn't have a tick that's irritating her too. Hope she's relieved soon.

Let us know how she is.

How about some cortisone cream? Seems rather harmless and it may work.

Cortisone cream isn't a good idea, it's not supposed to be ingested and the dog is already chewing and biting the area.

I don't know how you feel about chemical products, but www.DrsFosterSmith.com sell a flea and tick repellent that also repels mosquitos. A friend of mine uses it for her outdoor kitties and says it works really well. They have (or at least had) a dog version. Good luck!

Ask the vet if the dog can take a Benedryl.

Re: mosquito question bite question

Could it be a ""hot spot"" from a flea bite? I've never seen a mosquito bite on a dog. I always have had hairy dogs. Are you giving it heart worm meds?
