Interesting conversation with someone in the oil and gas industry. His company is holding many leases ready to drill but they cannot get PIPE anywhere. There is none to be had. This is just crazy.

@granddi

There are many companies that have leases, and all the equipment needed to drill. Without permits, they are not allowed to drill.

You can take it from there to it's end results. Unless someone is living in la la land somewhere, or independently wealthy, it is pretty easy to run smack into it every single day.

Since the US has chosen to EXPORT oil drilled here, what difference does it make?   I'll be darned if I understand why we can't drill, refine and use our own oil.  Does anyone know?

We were using our own oil 1 1/2 years ago.  U.S. was energy independent, all was going well.

No, we have never, not one time in 20 years, not imported oil on a monthly basis.

If you are interested in energy issues and news, check out eia.gov.  Lots of fascinating charts, graphs, statics and information!  Some of it is quite surprising.

Local U.S. sources were producing more oil and gas than we needed.  We were exporting more oil than we imported.  We did not need those imports.

Re: more supply chain issues....energy

Part of the labor shortage is we have way too many bureaucrats and far too few people doing blue-collar jobs. I'm in the process of reaching out to government agencies for help with an issue and all I get are responses that they can't help but here's a copied and pasted list of other agencies that might be able to help. None of which ever seem to do anything but send you a new list of other agencies that might help. And in the end, you end up being referred right back to where you started with nothing being done.

When I worked in customer service call dumping was grounds for dismissal. All anyone in government ever seems to do is try and pass you off to someone else. So, fire them. Kill their positions. Put them out there as a potential blue-collar worker. They won't let themselves starve and it would solve the labor shortage in a heartbeat. You can create automated bots to send out replies with lists of other agencies. You don't need to pay people to do it if that's all anyone in government will ever do.

I'm pretty confident if you asked 90% of the government workers what they achieved that day, they would look at you blankly and then regale you with the talk of how many people they guided to other agencies that day. That seems to be all the government does these days. Pass the buck to someone else. No one ever seems interested in solving an issue. They just send you a list of other agencies that might be able to help. As you can guess, I'm more than a tad frustrated dealing with the government. Ugh! Bureaucrats! Fire them all!

@gardenman

You have done the leg work. Now it is time to call your local representative, who has a name, an office and staff. Let the rep's office do the follow up. Take names, and keep calling and emailing until they find a resolution. Don't deal with faceless strangers on the phone. Deal with someone you can go to in person and sit in their waiting room if necessary.

A country is independent when it doesn't import any one else's oil. I don't care about net exportations for a couple of months during a pandemic when fuel was cheap because no one could go anywhere. Show me on any chart, graph or document, any month where we didn't import and I'll agree with you.

That's why I asked. You gotta have supplies and workers to drill. I'm a West Texas Gal. We were driving I 20 Pecos, Midland, Odessa etc and the yards were emply. The "yard" is where pipe and other drilling stuff is stored until needed.

My friend is mainly involved in obtaining (oil/gas) leases off government land. They have no obstacles to getting the leases but cannot get the equipment needed to drill.

States have the option of reducing/eliminating STATE TAXES on fuel. I think EPA has changed/relaxed requirement for "summer blend" additives in gasoline. I'm told summer blend is more expensive.

I believe Biden is allowing more ethanol to be in the gas.  There are serious issues with too much ethanol as it can damage cylinders and catalytic converters.  You don't want your car ruined by using the wrong fuel.
