methotrexate shortage

WOW! Methotrexate a commonly used and pretty effective chemotherapy agent for patients with leukemia is falling into a severe shortage. This drug is also used to treat Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis but , I believe , in those cases it is the oral form not the IV. I don't know if the oral drug is falling into a shortage as well. from what I read on MSN the company that was making it just decided to quit and said it had issues with controls on the drug - what ever that means.

It seems there are more and more drugs that are becoming unavailable. I was taking a common prescription strength NSAID and it is no longer available in generic form and the original is mega expensive so I had to switch to another drug and I don't like it as well.What is causing this to happen? I think it must have to do with profitability.

The FDA is currently seeking to find another source of methotrexate so people can be treated for leukemia before the drug is totally gone.
