I think it is intricate and beautiful. What a great heirloom. Hopefully the last coronation in which it is used for many years to come. Not a huge fan of the bird, but when it was made I am sure that was something very timely.

It's made of Ivory and I find it hypocritical that Camilla is using it especially since Charles and Prince William have spoken out about the poaching of elephants and have banned Ivory throughout the UK.

I completely agree.  It should NOT be used in this coronation or future coronations.

is the bird supposed to hold any special significance or be any particular type of bird?

Maybe she's just giving them the bird short and sweet!

When I first opened this I just looked at the picture before reading what it was.

I honestly thought it was a curtain rod with a decorative finial that you might buy at Big Lots LOL.

It seems to be in pretty good shape for how old it is.

I believe the bird may be a martlet, a symbol of endurance since they were rumored to never stop flying in their entire lifetime.  I would prefer to see this piece retired to a museum, however, because of the ivory.  I just can't look at it without knowing the suffering that came to an innocent creature.

"classy" or "classic"? I notice the two words are sometimes confused or used interchanably.
