This is a synopsis of the episode I saw last night.
Following the brutal murder of her father, Cassie's life was on a downward spiral of alcohol, drug abuse, and promiscuity. Then one day she received a Facebook message from Steve. He became the positive influence Cassie needed, teaching her to love herself and change her lifestyle for the better. Their relationship intensified and Cassie even asked Steve to marry her - and Steve accepted. Cassie desperately wants to meet her fiancé, but Steve is always too busy to video chat - let alone get together with her. Why is Steve unwilling to meet the woman he's promised to marry?
Here is what happened.
1) Cassie was "involved" with Steve for about two and a half years, without having seen him in person or a live chat on the internet.
2) Cassie's best friend since pre-K was very supportive of the relationship, and she never expressed any skepticism about his reluctance to meet Cassie or his limited photos.
3) After some digging, they found out that "Steve" and Cassie's friend's cousin had some internet pages in common.
4) When confronted, Cassie's friend revealed that there is no Steve. He is a fake persona she created and she asked her cousin (living in the same city) to pretend to be Steve and talk to Cassie on the phone.
So, for more than two years her best friend perpetuated a lie about her "fiance", an entity she created to help Cassie get out of a funk.
Cassie chose to forgive her friend, even though she felt betrayed, because she admitted she was a better person since "Steve" came into her life.
Could you forgive your best friend if he/she deceived you for more than two years?
