saying that my Social Security statement is now available for download. Is this a scam? It seems so. I have never received an email from Social Security about anything. It was written on a page with the Social Security seal on it, but the sender was from somebody from cox.net. What is this? Thanks for any replies.

I don't think SS works that way. Always thru snail mail, not email. I would disregard it and don't download anything. I would delete it right away.

I havn't received anything like that either. I would call SS and ask them, it does seem a little fishy to me.

I received an email too. I logged directly into MySocialSecurity to look. I'd never click on a link in an email.

Don't touch that email.
Go to the Social Security website, separately, on your own, and log into your individual account with your password. Any news will be there.

@newjersey, the SSA has been sending out notices about new benefit amounts but I believe you have to be a subscriber.
My notification was sent as follows: subscription.service@subscriptions.ssa.gov
I would be suspicious of the email you received and most definitely would not download anything from a link in that email.

I would just login into your MYSSA account directly and check to see if everything looks proper.
I agree that this seems a phishing expedition of some sort.

@newjersey - I would mark the email as spam and ignore it entirely.
It is sad that there are so many criminals out there looking to take information from us to rob us.
I get phone calls every day from many out-of-state phone numbers from all across the country. Last night, I picked up the phone to one of these calls, and it was an annoyingly aggressive sounding male who would not identify himself when asked, but who wanted to ask about the home at my address. I hung up immediately. What did he learn from me? He learned that there is someone female who answers the phone at the number he called at the time of evening that he called that number. Many months ago, I picked up the phone for a local number to hear a similarly aggressive and unkind sounding male who stated the same exact thing. We are living in unprecedented times where countless numbers of bad actors are trying to directly engage us for their own benefit, and to our detriment. These people do not have any of our interests at heart. It is definitely time to adhere to our mother's or father's advice to not talk to strangers.
There is no longer any point to picking up the phone to any number that is alien to you. If it is something important, they (the caller) will leave a message on your answering machine. If no message is left, they are scammers/criminals/salespeople.
