congratulations to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed a baby boy on Monday.

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs," a tweet from Kensington Palace revealed. "The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth."

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well," the tweet continued.

This is the third child for the royal couple.

The Duchess of Cambridge entered a London hospital early Monday with her husband by her side.

In the olden days someone had to be present ( a government person) when the baby was born. How awful! I think the Queen's father did away with that.

@Group 5 minus 1 This isn't exactly how the practice would read in actual research and historical documentation, but the old policy of a government official being present for the birth was due to concern about ascension to the throne. Royal babies were always born at home and those old world grannies and midwives were known to pull sneaky tricks if the baby wasn't what the family needed to retain power.
