I find the "challenging moderation" thing to be akin to a kid asking a parent "why" and being told "because I said so that's why".

And then it's not just "because I said so that's why" but it's followed by "Now Go To Your Room"

Moderating is like being a referee, you don't challenge a referee neither do you challenge a moderator.   Moderation, like being a referee is not done by committee or debate.   When it's called, it's done.

Challenging moderation could be there's a primary thread, which could be controversial, then it spawns off another line of posts within the thread which are inappropriate/argumentative.  There's no one rule broken, therefore "challenging moderation"

It's also not a personality contest here.    Different opinions & experiences should be allowed as long as all the rules are followed.   Don't agree, walk away from the computer.

At the end of the day, it all weighs on the shoulders of the posters.

Just today a poster, who is trying to be kumbaya with everyone

at this current writing, recognized the OP nickname &

called them out for ‘always’ being negative, etc. etc.

In fact their short post contained 3 “you(r)” mentions.

Not cool. And of course, the bullying began. And thread shut down.

So predictable....and it had n.o.t.h.i.n.g to do with the original post

I’ve always said here....

’‘unless you are saying ‘I love you’ or ‘you are great,’

’you’ is rarely used in a positive light...especially in an open forum.’

My suggestion is block out (****) the word ‘you’.

That might defuse the negative action.

@sidsmom  ???  So if I say "I agree with you" I'm being negative??

I disagree that using the word "you" is negative all the time.  I'd rather be a "you" than a *.

Am I missing your point?  Wait-am I missing **** point?

@Cakers3

Somehow eliminating the word ‘you’ makes it less...pointed.

It’s like a written ‘finger pointing you in the chest.’

For instance...and I’m not stretching from what I’ve seen on here:

Ex 1

”You are always posting negative things. Your posts are so mean.’

Ex 2

”*** are always posting negative things. ***r posts are so mean.’

See how the 2nd example loses the punch?

The *** function is easy to implement since we already have it.

Sounds silly....but it might work!

@sidsmomNo because *** are posting to the person anyway so why use a * instead of *** or ***r?  The "punch" is still there whether I use *** or ***.

In other words, calling out a poster for being negative, mean, etc. isn't going to soften because *** is being used instead of ***. or ***r.

*** made a suggestion but I do not see how is would work to diminish a negative remark.

It is the remark that is negative, not the use of *** or ***r.

A person heck bent on being negative or accusing another person of being negative will be understood regardless of using *** or ***r.

Do *** agree?

I am really surprised that the Q has kept this forum. I think we just need to follow their rules....not complain at all.  Be thankful we have these forums at all.

‘Holes’ in my theory, yes?!

Idunno....I still think eliminating ‘you’ has some weird,

mad scientist genius mindset behind it.  🌼💛

@software  However, posters should be allowed to ask for clarification when something is deleted.  That is not challenging the mod; if I ask why my post is considered "arguing" in a line of "discussion" but other posters on the same line are not deleted, it leaves a feeling of not applying standards equally across the board.

Insulting a mod is one thing; asking "why" isn't challenging.  I'm pretty sure we know when a post is really out of line.

I don't have many posts removed; and I just throw up my hands when it happens.

Mods have their own perceptions and interpretations so trying to get eveyone in line is like trying to herd cats.

@Cakers3 Not on the forums I've belonged to. ALL of them had that set up: if either party blocks the other. NEITHER can see anything regarding the other. Doesn't matter WHO did the initial blocking- neither sees anything.

I have no issue with that.
