Re: how would YOU change & improve the Q Community?

I like the rare intelligent discussions between two people with opposing views when they can be kept to the two people and don't degenerate into a sideshow. The point/counterpoint back and forth can be quite refreshing. It might be interesting to have an invite only option where two people can agree to debate one another on any topic (including the currently banned ones) and the rest of the forum simply gets to sit back and watch until the discussion is completed. Maybe even have it stay private between the two until the mods can review it to determine if it's civil enough to be posted.

I don't think there's any issue that two reasonable people of opposing views can't sit down and discuss without it necessarily becoming a flame throwing contest. On rare occasions such discourse would take place on the old Viewpoints forum with most just sitting back and watching as the two carried out a discussion. Civility seems less common these days though. (Viewpoints wasn't always a civil place, but on rare occasions real discussions on current topics, including politics, could take place there.)

Great post, gardenman!!

Some posters here have been on here forever and have friendships with others which may not immediately be identified.   You just don't know how well people know each other.

What looks like a spirited conversation to them may look like arguing to others, and someone inevitably reports it.

That's the only real change I'd make, too. That ignore feature was really nice.

I get awfully tired of the same negative, mean, nasty posts about vendors or hosts...every Monday and every Thursday.  If you HATE those women so much, don't watch them.  Saying that you are just trying to help QVC make more money is ludicrous.  If it is "just your opinion", but you post it every week and nothing changes, it seems like an exercise in futility. I would love to have the ignore feature back on the forums.

The “civility” between posters, proclaimed upthread,

should still remain...if they’re that ‘rarely intelligent.’🙄

Sounds like if those ‘reasonable’ people suddenly become a

’flame throwing contest,’ their true personality is

finally exposed.

Again, Reddit is a wonderful place for ‘flame throwing’ tactics

if one wishes to go pedal-to-the-metal.

@SurferWife  I thought the ignore feature we used to have just blocked the posters you wanted to block but that they could still see your posts?  I think they would have had to block you too.  Unless this is a different feature on FB.

I used the ignore feature here many years ago but honestly I found it could often disrupt the flow of the conversation, so I stopped using it.

I see a lot of downside with this approach. It would be very easy for this to be just another form of bullying. Don't like a poster and/or they're not part of your clique, just report them. A couple more members of your clan report that person, and they're out, when it should be the group making the concerted effort to get rid of someone that gets booted.

I'm probably in the minority, but  over moderation, can ruin a  forum ,imho

I liked it, when we had the old world news and views forum, being  a centrist, I usually got run over by  both sides, but it's just life

It is nothing personal ,we always don't agree..I like the people here for the most part. I can't think of anyone I would ban, and wish the ban were lifted ,so people could return

I would hope that when someone is banned from posting here that ALL the moderators came to a unanimous decision. The ban should be after much consideration and at least one warning to the poster.

I think there may have been a concerted effort by several posters to have someone banned just recently.
