I think it would depend on what you want done and the part of the country you live in!

I'm pretty sure it's depends on where you live and what you want her to do. Almost everyone I know has a cleaning lady but we never discuss what we pay them. We've had our housekeeper (she prefers to be called that) for 6 years and we pay her $14 an hour and she works 16 hrs a week. We're in MA where wages tend to be higher than they are in other parts of the country.

A good place to start would be to get a referral from someone you know, interview the person, and ask how much they charge.
Then you'll know.

I'm in NYC and pay mine $20 per hour, or $60 for three hours every other week. She does things that are out of the norm for a cleaning lady and I value her.

When I had one she charged $65 when she came. She came with her sister and they did a wonderful job. I thought my shoulder was feeling better and let her go. Now she is so busy I can't get her back. She's just too busy. I tipped them well also. Called around to a few places and can't believe what they charge. On my own for now.

Make sure that you have your own supplies for her to use, if you are allergic to strong chemicals. Many years ago, I hired a lady who used her own chemicals, and the entire house was almost unlivable for about 8 hours. Too strong of an odor. Not a good idea if you have elderly parents living with you or infants, small children.

I don't have one now, but I had a service come once a month. They sent two ladies and they stayed for two hours. To keep costs down, I only had them clean the main rooms. Kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms, laundry room, master bedroom and staircase to cellar. Hand washing the floors (lots of tile), vacuuming the cellar stairs and scrubbing the shower made it all worth while. Every month they spent extra time dusting every inch of two rooms, then do two different ones next time. I paid $95.
