gift cards anyone?

I thought I would kick off our annual gift card discussion. For years I gave gift cards then I was educated here. Many consider gift cards tacky, resent being told what place to use them, throw them in drawers or sell them online for pennies on the dollar. Now I send my kids a check and no one else gets anything. I still enjoy gift cards especially restaurant ones and I guess you could regift them. So what is the feeling this year? Yea or nay?
