exactly what IS praline?

We got fruitcakes (it's almost gone!) and the chocolate covered fruitcake bites

.....and pecans coated with praline. Opened the pecans and tried them. I was PLANNING on sweetness. Not so, though. Might be sweet & salty, but I just can't figure it out. DIL is from GA and I know pecans are from there.

The praline thing has me in a quandry. Can't put my finger on it, can't decide if I like it or not{#emotions_dlg.unsure}
