eBay Question

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice please. If I want to open an eBay account to sell a few things, do I need to give them my Social Security Number? I know they will send you a 1099 if your sales exceed $600.00 but my sales would not be that much.

Ebay uses managed payments and I think they require a ss number.   I think you get a tax document even if you are under the $600.
