We had our duct work, cleaned this fall. Our house was getting too dusty for my liking. We have been here  50 years ,and bought the house new

We also got a new high energy furnace ,that has a filter ,that is about 5 inches thick.

I can't believe how little dust we get now

If any of you have been planing to get your duct work cleaned, I think you will be pleasantly surprised, at how much less dust there will be.

Word of caution, if your heating ductwork is clay tile and imbedded in a slab you DON'T want to have them cleaned.  The cleaning process can damage and cause the tile to collapse leaving you with either no heat coming through, or major expense of having the floor torn up to replace the tile or re-running your ductwork into your attic.

@cherry, I had never heard of that, happy that it is helping with the dusting. Looks like, depending on how dirty it was, it could help with effecialncy as well.  How do you find someone to do this? Our house is almost 20 years old.

We got a new heat pump last fall, and our house has been so much warmer this winter, we haven't had to use our gas fireplace at all. Before, we would always use it on the colder days.

I had the duct work cleaned when I had a new furnace installed about seven years ago.  I guess I was expecting miracles because I saw no change at all.

Really thats interesting, perhaps your home is newer than mine?

My neighbor told me, how much cleaner her home was ,after the duct cleaning, and that is what sold me.  For me, the results are postive, of course ,I also have a new furnace, but my neighbor didn't

I have special micro fiber filters on my ducts and they trap dust...they get quite dirty and then I discard.

I have a pet peeve about dust. So I buy the very expensive HEPA furnace filters and change them often. It's unbelievable how much these filters have improved the quality of air in my house. Love it.Heart

@cherry

My house was built in the 50's.  He showed me what he vacuumed out and it was not much at all.
