We have a natural gas run whole house generator if needed.

I have a gas stove that will light when the electricity's out with a match or lighter. I turn the heat up so that the house is over 70 degrees in case of a power failure. I'm keeping my What A Light Charging just to make sure it's as full as possible. Ditto for my cell phone, which I rarely use.

I keep an old fashioned phone to plug in during an outage, that never goes down, just the new phones.
I got an extra heavy duty phone charger to keep on hand for the cells.
I have more flameless candles than you can shake a stick at,
and put them all over the house. This also means A LOT of extra batteries, which we also have.
Also a heavy duty camping lantern that can light up a room or be taken outside.
And my favorite thing, an emergency wind-up radio, available on the internet. One minute of winding gets you something like 20 minutes of radio, no batteries needed.
That radio is cool.......I'll look for it. Thanks!

Me too, Jazzy!
Our homes will be the meeting homes if power goes out. In the past storms, my friends showered here, powered up their devices and ate here. lol It was like one big party.

In the mid to late 90's we had power outages all the time especially during the summer. Complaining about it to our power company did absolutely no good....turned out it was related to Enron and their shenanigans. After they all went to jail and the company dissolved, it never happened again.

After Sandy, we didn't want to take any chances at all.

Yes we are prepared with food you don't have to cook and yes we have a grill and charge everything when a storm is coming. But we do not have a generator.
(I used to work at a supermarket in management and it always amazed me how people came in for things that they cant cook if the electric is out! They should buy non perishables too!).
We DO lose power here but not as much as some because we have underground wiring (fingers and toes crossed, don't want to jinx it!).
