We went to a street concert last evening. They announced that the elderly gentleman who was sitting next to my DH was celebrating his 97th birthday and the band even gave him a gift. But what was so notable was - the entire time he was there he was sitting there texting on his iphone. During a break in the music he was showing my DH some features of it. He was adorable, sharp as a tack and very sweet. My DH said he wants to be this guy when he is 97 - i agreed. When DH got up to get a beer he brought him one and he seemed to really enjoy it. His wife told us she was 21 years younger than him but he had always seemed to be the younger of the two of them. They live in the nearby senior housing, and she said they were quite content there. He is the oldest resident there.

My friend talks about her 101 year old mother as though she is in her 70's. She'll say things like "my Dad bought a bushel of apples and mom canned applesauce today" The dad is 8 years younger than the mom and it just amazes me that my friend doesn't even seem to realize how unusual it is that her parents can maintain a home, yard and garden at their age.

Really is amazing, and such a blessing to have ones health and enjoy so much at that age !
