Please don't move this to electronics. I have already tried there, so I am hoping my friends here can help.
Two days ago a line appeared below the space ship icon for the launchpad in my dock. I have a mac.
mr henny and I have tried everything we can think of to get rid of it but are unable.
We have never had this before.

I would suggest calling Apple T/S if no one here was able to help. They have awesome tech support!

It means that a program is being updated. You'd have to open Launchpad and look for which program icon has the line. Alternatively you can open the App Store on your desktop and look under Updates. It could either be hung up, or it needs you to reboot your mac, or something else.
Sorry I didn't see your thread in Electronics, I only go over there occasionally.

About you comment - not to move to electronics please. I can't figure out what the big deal is about this subject has to go 'there' and NOT here. As the famous words go..............."what difference does it make?" Rules here are so childish.

Thank you Jaxmom for making my point! 22 sub-divisions - who has time for that? I read Community and that's it.

Have you tried calling Apple customer care? I called them when I had some trouble with my iPhone synching and they were very helpful. WAY more helpful than the Microsoft help. I don't have Apple Care and they still helped me. Wait time wasn't very long, either.

I like the divisions, it does make it much easier to find the subject matter you're interested in. It's annoying that people think that Community Chat is special and should have every topic here. Not meaning the OP, who tried her best in the appropriate forum.

You need Apple Store or online support. This may not be the same thing, but after many years, my old iMac developed one line and then more and support told me the monitor was going. Finally I had to get a new iMac. It was time anyway because mine was one of the first iMacs!

That's not what she's referring to. She's specifically talking about a line at the bottom of the launchpad icon on the task bar. it does that when a program is in process of being updated.

Hi everyone!
Thank you for your replies.
we did go to the launchpad and found one of the ipods was due for an update. We complied. found nothing else updating or needing one. We turned off computer, unplugged and rebooted. The line is still there.
Didn't think about calling apple as our apple care is no longer good. We bought this in 2012, and are using El Capitan.
Will try calling apple.
